In November of 2002, Tennesseeans voted to create a state lottery. The General Assembly established that profits from the lottery go towards specific educational programs: college scholarships, early childhood programs and afterschool programs. Legislation specifics that 100% of UNCLAIMED prize winnings be used for afterschool grants.

In 2015-16, Bledsoe County's portion of the funding is receiving $195,000 to serve all 3 elementary schools: Pikeville Elementary, Rigsby Elementary, and Wheeler Elementary. This funding will provide Technology, Enrichment, Academics, & Music/Movement for all participants.

T.E.A.M. 2 CONNECTIONS (BCHS & BCMS)

—TEAM 2 We are beginning our second year to offer Afterschool at BCHS. It is sponsored by 21st Century federal funding in the amount of $119,000. TEAM 2 provides remedial assistance to (BCMS) increase test scores in all subject areas and (BCHS) to improve ACT scores, decrease the number of suspensions among middle and high school students, and provide training and support services to BCHS & BCMS for job readiness, career pathways, post-secondary education, and financial self-sufficiency. We expect to also have the TEAM2 Job Shadowing and CNA classes in the spring of 2016, but there will be NO PAY for students, due to federal regulations.
T.E.A.M. CONNECTIONS at the 3 elementary schools has been funded for the year 2015-2016 in the amount of $195,000. TEAM Afterschool provides educational assistance, enrichment activities, technology, and healthy movement for our students. It operates 7:15-7:45 AM Monday - Wednesday and 3:00-6:00 PM Monday - Thursday. If your child would like to know more about the program or participate in it, please contact your child's school or visit the LEAD teacher for your program to get an application.
